Scott D. Miller is a Principal of Actuarial Consulting Group, Inc., an employee benefits consulting firm.

With over thirty years of experience in the employee benefits and compensation consulting field, Mr. Miller is a Fellow of the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries, a Fellow of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries, a member of the American Academy of Actuaries, a Certified Pension Consultant and an Enrolled Actuary.

Mr. Miller has served as the President for the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries (ASPPA). He is the current Chair of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries Committee for Smaller Actuarial Consulting Firms, a member of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries’ Committee on Professionalism, and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries’ Council on Professionalism. He has served as a member of the American Academy of Actuaries’ Board of Directors. In addition, he previously served as Treasurer, Vice President and member of the Board of Directors of ASPPA, General Chairman of ASPPA’s Education and Examination Committee, and Chairman of the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries Pension Education and Research Foundation, Inc. ASPPA is a national organization of actuaries, consultants, administrators and other benefits professionals dedicated to education, preservation and enhancement of the U.S. pension system.

Mr. Miller was appointed by the White House to be a delegate to the 2006 National Summit on Retirement Savings, joining a diverse group of expert private and public sector professionals and U.S. legislators. The goal of this National Summit is to address vital retirement issues, develop recommendations for strengthening our national retirement policy, and advance the public's knowledge and understanding of retirement savings and its critical importance to the future well-being of workers and their families. In addition, Mr. Miller has testified before the U.S. Department of Labor ERISA Advisory Council on 401(k) plan issues and he has testified before the U.S. House of Representatives Ways and Means Committee on retirement security and defined benefit pension plans.

Mr. Miller is a local and national lecturer on pension, actuarial and employee benefits topics, Co-author of the 2012 Pension Distribution Answer Book published by Wolters Kluwer Law & Business and an editor of two actuarial textbooks published by ASPPA.

Mr. Miller was one of only ten private sector actuaries nationally, called upon to consult with The Joint Board for the Enrollment of Actuaries of The United States Department of Labor and The United States Department of Treasury (JBEA) regarding the evaluation and refinement of the governmental program for the testing and accrediting of actuaries.

Mr. Miller has been recognized by the Executive Director of JBEA for his assistance and commitment to the actuarial profession.

Carol R. Sears is a Principal of Actuarial Consulting Group, Inc., an employee benefits consulting firm.  Ms. Sears has over thirty years of experience in the employee benefits consulting field.  She is a graduate of the University of Illinois with a degree in Actuarial Science and Finance.  Ms. Sears is a Fellow of the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries, a Fellow in the Conference of Consulting Actuaries, a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries, a Certified Pension Consultant and an Enrolled Actuary.

 

Ms. Sears is currently Vice President of Professionalism and a member of the Board of Directors of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries (CCA).  The mission of the CCA is “The Conference – Where leading consultants collectively advance actuarial practice”.  She serves on the Professionalism Committee of the International Actuarial Association.  She is also a member of the International Congress of Actuaries Scientific Committee which is a quadrennial function of the International Actuarial Association.

 

Ms. Sears has been elected to be a Trustee of The Actuarial Foundation effective January 1, 2012.  The Actuarial Foundation develops, funds, and executes education, scholarship and research programs that serve the public and the profession by harnessing the talents and resources of actuaries.

 

Ms. Sears has previously served as the President and Vice President of the American Society of Pension Actuaries (ASPPA), and as ASPPA’s Technical Education Consultant. She served on the ASPPA Education and Examination Committee for many years, most notably as the General Chair.  ASPPA is an organization of actuaries, consultants, administrators and other benefits professionals dedicated to education, preservation and enhancement of the U.S. pension system.  Ms. Sears served as a member of the American Academy of Actuaries’ Board of Directors.  She was also a member of the Advisory Committee for The Joint Board for the Enrollment of Actuaries of the United States Department of Labor and The United States Department of Treasury.

 

Ms. Sears was a member of the Actuarial Board for Counseling and Discipline (ABCD) for six years, serving as the Chair of the ABCD during her final year.  The ABCD serves the five US-based actuarial organizations to consider complaints and questions concerning possible violations of the Actuarial Code of Professional Conduct.

 

Ms. Sears is a frequent local and national speaker and author on topics relative to retirement plans and other employee benefit programs.  She is co-author of the 2012 Pension Distribution Answer Book published by Wolters Kluwer Law & Business.  Ms. Sears has testified before the U.S. House of Representatives Ways and Means Committee about the pension industry.  ASPPA selected Ms. Sears as the 2005 recipient of the prestigious Educator’s Award, in recognition of her leadership and outstanding contributions to educating the retirement industry.

 

Ms. Sears participated, along with other retirement industry experts, in a national initiative known as “Conversation on Coverage”.  This group was coordinated by the Pension Rights Center and other organizations, sponsored in part by the Ford Foundation, to conduct a national dialogue on ways to expand retirement savings for American workers. 

 

In addition to numerous business awards, Ms. Sears has been a recipient of the 25 Women in Leadership Award, in recognition for her contributions to the betterment of family, business and the Central Illinois community.
